Well - this is the last one for the September Challenge. 

I have really enjoyed posting these pieces every day and it has been so interesting to see what other artists have created.

This piece has already been bought by a friend who is having a fund-raising day today for a very dear friend of hers who succumbed to cancer. She felt that this would be an interesting way of marking the day. I am very proud that she chose something of mine.

Well - we've nearly finished. It will seem strange not to be rushing round keeping up with the challenge. 

I ordered all my mounts and cellophane bags this week and they arrived yesterday. All I have to do now is wait for everything to dry so that I can make it look complete and rather more professional.

Today's piece. 

Don't normally use these colours but that is one of the reasons that I find this whole exercise really interesting - it creates freedom to experiment.

My observant daughter has pointed out that the mount looks a bit scruffy and people might think that they were buying that if they made a purchase. Of course each piece will have a brand new mount and will be in a sealed cellophane bag. I only use this mount for photographing.

This feels a bit like a landscape and sky although the red spot helps to destroy that illusion I think as it does rather dominate and push itself forward.

One of the interesting things I've noticed, being involved with painting so regularly, is that it is actually quite freeing.  

Today I decided to stamp circular shapes on my piece. I have to look through the shapes to see what is happening behind. It feels almost as though I am looking through wire to a beach and sea beyond. 

Calls to mind the D-Day Landings somehow....

Rather thought that this resembles a landscape - perhaps the sort you might find on Mars - red desert, dry waterways and a faint moon in brooding sky. One of my favourites so far I think.

I do like the way that there are images which seem to fade into the background here in this piece. It calls to mind some of the photographs of the Blitz with glimpses of St Paul's emerging from the smoke.

I look at the work of other people who are involved in this challenge and am very impressed by the way that their work appears - all straight and neat and mine is anything but!!! Oh dear........

I love some of the colours in today's piece and have done very little to it in the way of tidying or filling in gaps - really quite brave for me.

The colours in this piece are much bluer in reality and much more appealing. There are lovely dark depths which draw you in but they don't show up here - oh dear.....

Today has been a busy day for me so I confess to having painted this earlier. 

I have been hanging an exhibition in 

Cafe Society in Huddersfield (www.cafesocietyhd1.co.uk). 

As part of HOST preview week there is to be an Art Walk tomorrow night visiting venues that don't necessarily hang art work on their walls. I have asked a friend to relay any positive feedback to me but not any negative - so if she doesn't say anything I guess that will mean my work has not been well received....oh dear!

This little painting was interesting to do and I very much enjoyed playing with the arrangement of the small white dots. I am happy with where they are.

Curious one this - I do like circles and by painting the overlapping bit in white - they seem to be floating and unanchored. 

Pale colours don't normally feature in my work but this particular challenge gives me the opportunity to experiment and explore where normally I would be sticking to my usual colour schemes.

Somehow I am loathe to ignore  shapes which  appear in a random manner.

I love contrasting colours which meet at a straight edge. It sets up a curious kind of tension which is hugely exciting in an odd sort of way.

I do like circles especially dense dark ones juxtaposed with a paler colour.

My original intent was to make all pieces 4" square - as above but on further consideration

I have decided to leave my circle unmounted.

My circle remains uncontained by boundaries....

Have just realised that posting a 'raw' picture without some kind of a frame is not good!!!

So here is the first painting of the series tidied up and improved somewhat.

Day One

Sunday 1 September and I'm all ready to go.

I am working on small colourful abstract pieces which I find really quite exciting. I enjoy working within this particular framework because it means that people really have to look carefully at what is going on and are drawn in. This is very different from how one usually views paintings.

I like that....

All the pieces will be part of  'September Series' and will be numbered.
